Bring Food and Hope to a Hungry Child

The latest report from Children's Hunger Fund, one of the Charities benefiting from Handbags4Hunger customer's purchases
A program report from Children's Hunger Fund® May 2009
Dear Lisa,
Thank you for taking part in the exciting work God is doing through Children's Hunger Fund! Below is another great way for you and your family to get involved in serving the needs of poor children around the world.
What can 5¢ do?
Dave in Peru A nickel? A dime? A dollar? What can they really do to help a child suffering in poverty? You may be surprised to know how far a nickel can go.

According to a recent UNICEF report, over 25,000 children under five years old die every day due to poverty, hunger, and preventable diseases. This horrifying statistic may stop you in your tracks, causing you to re-read it. It may overwhelm you with grief. It may paralyze you with the thought of the world's futile efforts to solve it. You may choose to ignore it. Or, it may energize you with a passion to find a heroic solution.

No matter how that fact affects you, you must surely see the need for intervention on behalf of these desperate little ones.

The current economic crisis is a hard reminder that resources are limited. With limited resources, the ability to act on a grand scale is limited too. But limited resources can't stop us from acting on an individual basis. In fact, it takes very little to bring food and hope to a hungry child.

Children's Hunger Fund has access to an incredible product made specifically for children suffering from malnutrition and hunger. It is a dehydrated, vitamin-fortified, casserole mix made with rice and soy. It was designed with multiple cultures in mind and tastes pretty good too. Here's where you come in. It costs around $12,000 to send a sea container full of rice casserole to the countries where CHF serves. There are approximately 240,000 servings shipped per sea container, so that is a cost of 5¢ per serving for a child in need.

This month, we are asking our supporters, friends like you, to help us ship sea containers full of aid, like the rice casserole to our international Mercy Networks. With a gift of $20 you could provide 400 meals for a church outreach program in PerĂº. A gift of $100 could provide 2,000 meals for orphans in Ghana. If you are considering a more significant gift to the work of CHF, you could fund a whole sea container of rice casserole to one of our international Mercy Networks - that's nearly ¼ million meals - for $12,000 or $1,000 per month!

Will you consider joining with us to help impact one hungry child at a time this month? Together we can make an incredible difference for the children we serve.
Thank you so much for your faithful support of Children's Hunger Fund. You can donate online here. Your gifts help us to change the future for so many young children! May God richly bless you for your generosity!

Gratefully,

Dave Phillips
President, Children's Hunger Fund
