Handbags4Hunger extends Free Shipping Day to "The 12 Days of Free Shipping!"

With 12 days to go before Christmas, millions of Americans are taking part in a long-held holiday tradition: procrastination.

According to a new poll from Reuters, 58 percent of us have done half or less of our holiday shopping. Twenty-eight percent haven't even started yet. That adds up to a lot of last-minute traffic in stores and online over the next 10 days.

But don't fret if you have yet to get gifts under the tree. It's possible to wait until really late in the game and still have everything delivered by the night before Christmas.  Free Shipping Day, an annual event, is taking place Monday, December 17 this year. More than 1,500 retailers have signed on so far. The event's website will list all offers and deals at midnight ET on Monday, with guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve.

But if you don't complete your shopping by Monday, don't fret: Handbags4Hunger is extending Free Shipping day to "The 12 days of Free Shipping!"

Starting NOW, we are offering free priority shipping on all U.S. orders* through Monday, December 24.
  • To have your order delivered by Christmas Eve click here for deadlines.
All orders placed by Noon each day will have same-day shipping! The later in the week, the less sure your items are to arrive by Christmas Eve, so get those orders in early to be safe.

What is this blog about?

Since we haven't posted in a while, here is a reintroduction of what this blog is about. This is the official company blog for Handbags4Hunger -- an online store featuring authentic brand new designer handbags, with a portion of each handbag sale going to a hunger charity of the customer’s choice. All items offered are authentic and brand new, at prices that are 40-80% below retail. We are located in the Midwestern U.S. (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) and have combined a passion for handbags with our love for kids.
Whenever you purchase a handbag from this site, Handbags4Hunger will donate a portion of that sale (approximately 10%) to one of the organizations profiled on this page. We currently support The Children's Hunger Fund (CHF), but we're always open to any new charities our customers prefer, just add a note when you order.
To honor and assist the great work of certain charities, Handbags4Hunger contributes a percent of the sales from this website to The Children's Hunger Fund. Handbags4Hunger Founder Lisa Stadtmueller is independently donating to these organizations that make a huge difference in people's lives: "My life has been extremely blessed. I count myself privileged to be able to give something back."

That's all folks! :)

Live 24/7 Bald Eagle Camera

Need a break from everyday life? Wish you could get back to nature? Well you can keep a little bit of nature live on your computer via webcam. Our latest obsession is watching baby eaglets hatch in an eagle's nest located on the banks of the Wolf River in Wisconsin. These bald eagles, named George and Martha,  have built a nest in a large white pine tree.

The audio is enabled, to hear the sounds of the eagles in the wild and of course their ever vocal young. Currently there are 2 healthy little chicks and both are eating and interacting. Both are a few days old.
You can keep it open as a pop up while you work and see what's happening 24/7. This one even has infrared lighting - allowing night viewing.

Enjoy!

P.S.: There is currently a naming contest that will run until the eaglets are banded. Visit Live Wildlife Cams website for more information.

KONY 2012

The most viral video in history exploded onto the national scene on March 5th and captivated people (including us!) for 30 minutes, reaching 100 million views in just six days. In the world we live in today, it pays to be technologically savvy. Add in a passionate and attractive speaker (and his super cute kid!) going up against a war criminal in Africa and you’ve created the picture perfect charitable organization. If all charities called the world to action like the Kony 2012 campaign hitting the world right now, charitable giving would seem like a more manageable idea in a nation plagued with recession.

What amazes us most about this video is how it could be so long — really a “short film” — and keep people watching the entire time. In a world of 140 character news bulletins (aka tweets) and the decline of long form news, this 30 minute video had most people glued to their computer through the end. Whether you were alerted by Twitter or Google trending or by world of mouth or local or national news, you’ve undoubtedly heard of this movement by now and how it has young people everywhere joining together and supporting a cause — whether by action or monetary donation. The Invisible Children movement calls first for awareness. Secondly, it encourages people to purchase “action packs ” including two Kony 2012 bracelets, an action guide, posters, buttons, and a t-shirt for $30. Or, donate a few dollars a month, and you get an action kit for free. If you haven’t seen it, check it out below:

Man Fired for Feeding Feral Cats

Larry Ottoviani had been working for seven years at the 7Up Bottling Company in Sacramento, Calif. But now, an act of compassion has gotten him fired.
Ottoviani has been taking care of a colony of feral cats living near the bottling plant. He’s been feeding them and working with the Sacramento SPCA to get the felines neutered and vaccinated. He’s even helped find forever homes for some of the tamer cats and kittens.
The SSPCA recruited volunteers to sweep and clean up shards of broken glass in an unused area near the bottling facility and launched an aggressive TNR campaign in 2008. Between August 2008 and December 2009, they trapped 71 feral cats and had them neutered and vaccinated before returning them to their home.
Plant management didn’t see this as a good thing. Instead, they claimed that the TNR campaign was bringing more feral cats onto the property and that Ottoviani’s actions put them in danger of violating Food & Drug Administration regulations requiring that food processing facilities do everything they can to protect against food contamination.
So on January 4, Ottoviani got his pink slip. The termination notice claimed he’d violated his “last chance agreement not to feed the cats on company time and/or company property.”
Ottoviani doesn’t deny that he fed the cats, but he insists he didn’t do so while he was on the clock or on company property.
As if it weren’t bad enough that the 7Up Bottling Company fired Larry Ottoviani for engaging in the responsible care of feral cats, the truly heartless thing is that they couldn’t have picked a worse time to do so. His wife is under treatment for a debilitating illness that has required lots of hospital visits; he’s taking care of a profoundly disabled adult son; and Ottoviani himself has had his share of medical problems. He had to have a kidney removed when doctors found a tumor on it.
So here’s a guy facing huge medical costs, and now he’s got to find a way to pay for $400 a month COBRA premiums while being unemployed. And, of course, COBRA benefits only last so long.
Now, if the dude had come to work drunk every day, for example, I’d understand why he had to be fired. And his bosses would probably be more compassionate about it, too. But Ottoviani is just a guy with a whole lot of heavy-duty crap going on at home, who found a release from his anxiety in the care and feeding of needy cats.
The 7Up Bottling Company fired a man for doing the right thing, and for cooperating with it to the maximum extent possible.
“Are corporations just going out of their way to be inhumane these days? Firing Ottoviani for responsibly managing a feral colony? The excuse of sanitation is BS. If they were outside the plant buildings, they were out there with the dirt, broken glass, birds, rodents, and insects. I hardly think cats behind a building or on an adjacent lot are jeopardizing sanitation standards. No more 7-Up, Pepsi, or Dr. Pepper for me and mine.” ~ comment on 7Up’s Facebook page
If you want to do something to help Larry Ottoviani get his job back, you can join the hundreds of people who have already posted their comments on 7Up’s Facebook page (but please, put away your pitchforks and torches first: cussing and wishing gruesome death on people is not helpful) or sign the Reinstate Larry Ottoviani petition.

Let's start with the worst, shall we.

I do not like Piper Perabo's dress one bit.

It's ginormous.

It looks like plastic.

It's also see-through.

Let's not forget the color. It looks like dirty bath water.

NOT A FAN!
