How can we Afford Charity Donations w/this Economy?

Unite For Hunger And Hope

BlogCatalog members and Heifer International are partnering to call for the end of world hunger and start of hope on April 29. Right now, more than 500 million people are living in "absolute poverty" and more than 15 million children die of hunger every year.

World Health Organization estimates that one-third of the population is underfed and another third is starving. Even in the United States, 46 percent of African-American children and 49 percent of Latino children are considered chronically hungry.

Organizations like Heifer International are the solution. Every day in April, Heifer International is lifting people out of poverty by providing communities with livestock and agricultural training to improve lives and inspire hope. What can you do?

• Visit Heifer International to learn more about Pass On The Gift.
• Make a small donation or take some other action to end world hunger.

The bad economy doesn't mean we can't still find ways to donate to charity, even if you are experiencing a job slow down or layoff:

Establish groups of families in your neighborhood to pool their salable items and hold a mass garage sale. Publicize the event and use the opportunity to “pass on the gift” of knowledge about hunger and poverty during the sale. Invite your local paper or TV crews to cover the giant neighborhood-wide event. And make sure that all your customers know that the proceeds are benefiting those in need here in the United States and around the world!

Kurt is Collating the Phone Book

OK this is a little bit crazy (well a LOT crazy) - but I'm freaking out - Kurt just got the old phonebook, and the new phonebook, laid them on his footrest side by side, and flipped to the last page of each, then started flipping over page 1 book, then page 2 book, back and forth, for about an hour now. I asked him what the heck he's doing and he answers without any smirk or twinkle of mischief "I'm cross-collating the phone books."

This way he says he can look through the yellow pages and the white pages at the same time. Why would one need to do this I asked? His response - "the whole experiment was, I took 2 phone books and according to Mythbusters you can't pull the two books apart"...something about Chinese Yo-Yo's.

I think my husband needs a hobby....or a dog to walk.
