Fractionated Coconut Carrier Oil & Massage Oil

4 stars
I tried Fractionated Coconut Carrier Oil from goPure as an all over body moisturizer. I did like the fact that the bottle offers a generously sized amount (16 oz). It is completely clear, colorless and did not leave any greasy film on my fingers and absorbed into my skin immediately. I found the consistency to be wonderfully silky and light.

I am one of "those people" with odor sensitivity issues. I can't tolerate people sitting nearby if they are wearing most perfumes and I can't stand using anything scented unless it's really fruity like coconuts or strawberries, etc. That's why I thought if this oil DID have a scent it would still work for me.

Indeed, there is absolutely NO odor to this oil when in the bottle or while applying. "Perfect" I thought!

But the next day where I had applied it my skin had a very strong musty scent that was bothersome enough that I can't use the oil. Maybe my skin chemistry just reacted negatively to it.

Perhaps if I mixed it with an essential oil the smell issue would no longer occur, and I might give that a try. Or maybe I will try mixing a little of it with my shampoo - as I have dry curly hair and often need to apply oil to it after washing. It's just using it straight on my skin that I could not tolerate.

I was given a bottle in exchange for my unbiased and honest review. I appreciated the prompt shipping.

Perfective Ceuticals Ultra-light Sunscreen SPF 40

Today I'm reviewing Perfective Ceuticals Ultra-light Sunscreen SPF 40 – a high protection broad-spectrum sunscreen that is also designed to improve skin tone & texture.
This is the lightest facial sunscreen I have ever found, period. It doesn't have that icky clogged pore feeling you get when wearing most sunscreens. I'm one of those people that has to wash my face ASAP after applying sunscreen on my face. But with this sunscreen I don't even remember I'm wearing it. It really feels more like a facial moisturizer.

It does have a very mild scent which worried me at first. I have fragrance intolerance issues - but this one smells only for a few minutes and doesn't linger (and gag me)....It's easy to apply and is very gentle on the skin. I didn't feel any sting after applying unlike some facial sunscreens that I've tried. Especially around my eyes.

My face does not look shiny and my skin feels very soft. It's cream based, but it's not sticky. I love this product!

Overall, this sunscreen is really nice and it works as a great moisturizer as well. If you are looking for a product to combat the signs of aging and protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun, this is a great product to try.

Real Bug Dig Science Kit by Discover with Dr. Cool

Excavating bug specimens buried inside a beetle-shaped digging block?!? Just like a real paleontologist!?!

When the Discover with Dr. Cool Real Insect Excavation Science Kit arrived in the mail (courtesy of the vendor in exchange for my unbiased review) I was pretty sure this was the perfect gift for my son, age 10. He is very interested in bugs and science in general, and he is a "kinesthetic" hands-on learner, meaning the learning takes place by carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations.

the mom "ick" factor ;)
So this was the perfect way to spend an hour - even could be used for homeschooling. It was just the right amount of challenge, without being frustrating. He did end up using my kitchen scissors because the included digging tool "wasn't sharp enough" - but he's had training in using sharp instruments like boy scout knives and the like so I wasn't worried.

I'm glad the kit includes a magnifying glass to look at what he uncovered - a real scorpion, spiny spider, and fortune beetle specimen. The insects are inside acrylic so that you can examine them from all sides (and mom doesn't have the gross out factor of bugs on her dining room table).
And in my opinion they are positively GROSS which just means he loved it all the more. (Anything with the mom "ick" factor is a plus).

This is perfect for kids ages 6-12 that are interested in bugs, science, entomology, or paleontology.

The 12-page info guide with "cool science facts" about insects (written by teachers) was a nice bonus, as was the activity booklet with it's puzzles and games.

It's not surprising that this kit won awards such as the "Brain Toy Gold Award - Academic's Choice 2013", and "Family Review Center - Best of the Year" among others.

Highly recommended! Great tool for homeschooling.
